Is it history — or herstory?

Whatever spin one elects to put on it, it doesn’t change the fact that the top-seeded Eastlake High School girls water polo team will line up in the pool at La Jolla High School on Saturday against seventh-seeded San Pasqual for the opportunity to capture the school’s first San Diego Section championship in the sport.

The Division III title game is scheduled to start at 12:15 p.m.

Eastlake is 16-12 while San Pasqual is 11-18.

The Lady Titans advanced to the championship round on the strength of Monday’s 12-5 victory against fifth-seeded San Marcos in the division semifinals. Elisa Levine scored five goals for the victors.

Eastlake opened the playoffs with an 18-5 win over ninth-seeded Mater Dei Catholic in the division quarterfinals on Feb. 19 as Brianna Mullalley scored eight goals.

Eastlake High School Assistant Principal Robert Hughes lauded the efforts of the team.

“It’s been a tremendous season for the girls,” Hughes said. “It’s exciting for them to go to the CIF finals. We’re having an incredible year for women’s sports at Eastlake High School. It started with the women’s tennis team winning the Division III team championship in the fall.”

An all-Metro Conference Division III final failed to materialize when third-seeded San Ysidro fell, 9-7, to San Pasqual in Monday’s other semifinal. The South Bay League co-champion Cougars finished 17-11. – See more at: LINK
