Cavaco hit .433 with eight homers, 13 doubles, 16 stolen bases, 33 runs scored and 21 RBIs as a senior while leading Eastlake to the Open Division championship.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound infielder was chosen by the Minnesota Twins with the 13th pick in the first round of the MLB Draft and is playing for the Twins’ Rookie-level affiliate in the Gulf Coast League. He began the week hitting .250 (5-for-20) in six games.
Cavaco is the second straight Cal-Hi Sports Mr. Baseball from San Diego. Pitcher Joey Magrisi of Torrey Pines took home the honor in 2018 while La Costa Canyon outfielder Mickey Moniak was Mr. Baseball in 2016 and Cathedral Catholic lefty Brady Aiken was honored in 2014.
